Intercessors Aotearoa
Intercessors Aotearoa exists to inform, equip and mobilise intercession for the government here in New Zealand. We are a movement which began in 2021 with a growing awareness that many Christians wanted to pray but understood very little of the workings of parliament and the realities of governing both nationally and locally. On top of that, there was a desire for people to grow in their call as intercessors, especially in this realm, if we were to see a shift in the course of the nation.
Our basic strategy is simple: each week we seek the Lord as a team for what He is wanting us to focus on for our intercession that week. We then put together a briefing (information) and some prayer points (equipping) which is emailed out to everyone on our database. Then, on Wednesday evenings, we run a Zoom call where intercessors from around the nation gather, hear the briefing then pray into the prayer points as Holy Spirit leads (mobilising). Summary notes are taken and sent out the following week, so intercessors have a feedback loop.
Another strategy the Lord has shown us is something we’ve called 72/72. This simply means we run a Zoom call where we pray through every electorate in the country across 72 hours – one hour for each. People can jump on for their electorate (or whenever they like) and pray with the locals. This year the focus is the upcoming election, and we invite all intercessors and those with a heart for prayer to join us in praying for voters, candidates and local electorate needs. You can find out more at https://www.intercessorsaotearoa.nz/7272prayer. The dates are Wednesday 16th September through to Saturday 19th September – that’s this week! Register HERE to receive the Zoom link and our Election Handbook, so that you can learn more about intercession in this sphere.
Melissa Runciman and an amazing team of faithful intercessors work together to create the prayer points, pull together the Zoom calls each week and host the 72/72 Events. They welcome you to join them as they pray and intercede for the upcoming election. Intercession is critical in this hour and the Lord seems to be raising up more and more intercessors to unite as one voice across the nation to see His purposes outworked.
Prayer Points
1. Unity among intercessors throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1
2. Every candidate who is standing for election. “…whoever would be great among you must be your servant.” Matthew 20:26
3. Every voter to exercise wisdom and discernment. “…if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God…” James 1:5
4. Peace throughout the election period. “…let all things be done decently and in order.” 1 Corinthians 14:40
5. God’s purposes to be accomplished in our nation. “…the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will…” Daniel 4:17
6. That those elected will govern with wisdom, integrity, humility, justice, courage, compassion, and faithful stewardship for the benefit of all New Zealanders.
