Regional Focus: Waikato/Hamilton

Rachel Afeaki is the Chairperson for the Hamilton Prayer Breakfast, she is on the Working Board for NZ Christian Network and is involved in various other businesses and organisations accross the Waikato.
Waikato
Waikato is one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing regions, home to around 528,000 people, with a strong agricultural base, growing industries and diverse communities. Population growth, including movement from Auckland, is increasing pressure on housing, infrastructure and essential services across the region. At the same time, communities face challenges including deprivation, particularly in parts of South Waikato and Hamilton, alongside homelessness, crime, youth vulnerability and mental health concerns. The region is also experiencing significant cultural and spiritual change, with the 2023 Census showing “no religion” as the largest affiliation category in Hamilton and across New Zealand. Against this backdrop, there is a significant opportunity for the Church to grow in unity, serve communities practically and make the good news of Jesus known across Waikato.
Hamilton Prayer Breakfast
The 7th annual Hamilton Prayer Breakfast is taking place on Wednesday 16 September at the Claudelands Events Centre. This year our theme is Anchored & Active and based on Hebrews 10: 23 – 25 (NIV): 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Prayer Points
1. Thankfulness for God’s Unchanging Character.
2. For those dealing with mental health concerns, homelessness/sleeping rough.
3. Unity amongst churches and Christians.
4. Those attending the Prayer Breakfast.
5. Pray that our visible oneness as followers of Jesus serves as a powerful witness, convincing our city of Christ’s love and bringing glory to God.
