Waitangi Day

Christians have a priestly ministry of prayer for our nation. How can we pray better for New Zealand in the light of the Treaty of Waitangi? The Revd Dr. Malcolm Falloon will draw on the example of previous generations of Christians to encourage our own prayers. In particular, he will draw lessons from the first Waitangi Day celebration held in 1934 and the Bledisloe prayer offered on that occasion.

Prayer points

  • For God’s Beneficent Wisdom in knitting together the people of New Zealand.
  • For the Unity and Peace that has come through the Christian Gospel.
  • For the foresight of those who signed the Treaty.
  • For the benefits that have resulted from their decision.

Prayer

  • That the sacred compact of the Treaty may be faithfully and honourably kept.
  • That New Zealand may continue to know peace, contentment and order progress as a united nation.
  • That New Zealand may have a renewed confidence in God’s governance, constant presence, and ever-ready help.
  • That all the people of this land might be knit together as one people.
