SIM New Zealand
We are united by our belief that no one should live and die without hearing the good news of Jesus Christ. Working in close partnership with churches, we recruit, equip and place mission workers in multi-cultural teams to serve in communities where Christ is least known.
We’re a global mission family of more than 4,000 people, serving in more than 70 countries. With team members from around 70 different nationalities, we work together across cultures and continents, sharing Jesus with diverse communities and walking alongside them in faith and service.
Our ministries fall into four key areas: disciple-making and church-planting; outreach; serving and equipping churches for missions and mobilising for mission; and leadership and services.
This year, SIM is celebrating its 100th Anniversary as an organisation here in NZ. Our office is located in Howick, Auckland.
About Helen Cowie
Helen will be sharing in the prayer gathering tonight (Monday 22 June). Originally from Canada, Helen joined SIM when she was 22 years old on completion of her Bible training in Germany. Learning French for future work in west Africa led her to meet Chris and they married a few months after arriving in Benin Republic. Together, they served for many years in Benin, Niger and Nigeria interspersed with years of working in the SIM NZ office, Helen has been back in her role as SIM NZ personnel director for the past 5 years.
Prayer Points
1. Pray for those who don’t yet know Jesus in the countries where SIM is working. Pray for breakthroughs in hearts and lives and for God’s love to bring real and lasting change.
2. Pray for SIM leaders and lift them up as they oversee complex, cross-cultural, and often high-stress ministries in over 70 countries.
3. Pray for the SIM NZ office as we engage with churches in NZ and that we would be effective in helping people find their place in God’s mission.
4. Pray for the recruitment of an office administrator for SIM NZ to be completed by 30 June and for a new personnel director to be in place by the end of 2026.
5. Pray that the SIM workers currently engaged in support raising would be fully funded and able to proceed to their ministry locations.
6. Pray for the team of interns from Word of Life NZ who will be undertaking a short term mission engagement in Thailand in November 2026. Pray for the SIM NZ office as we help prepare them and that this experience would have a positive impact on all, both the communities served and the individuals who serve.
