Four areas of prayer for the NZ Church
In preparation for the New Zealand Christian Leaders’ Congress in November 2026, the New Zealand Christian Network invited input from church leaders across the country on where the Church in Aotearoa New Zealand most needs strengthening.
From this, four key areas have emerged. These are not simply strategic priorities, but deeply spiritual matters—opportunities for us to pray, to seek God’s wisdom, and to depend afresh on him.
- Discipleship & Spiritual Formation: A desire to see believers increasingly grounded and growing in a deep, lived faith in Christ.
- Evangelism & Mission: A longing for renewed confidence and fruitfulness in sharing the gospel in our contemporary context.
- Unity, Trust & Collaboration: A prayer for deeper unity and strengthened relationships across churches, for the sake of our shared witness.
- Leadership Development & Training: An opportunity to raise up and equip the next generation of leaders for the life and mission of the Church.
Prayer points
Discipleship & Spiritual Formation
- Pray for a deepening of faith across the Church in New Zealand—that believers would grow in prayer, Scripture, and obedience.
- Ask that churches would become communities that intentionally form disciples, not just gather attenders.
- Pray for a renewed hunger for God’s Word and for spiritual maturity among God’s people.
Evangelism & Mission
- Pray for renewed confidence in the gospel, especially in an increasingly secular culture.
- Ask that Christians would be bold, wise, and compassionate in sharing their faith.
- Pray for those who do not yet know Christ, that hearts would be opened to the good news of Easter.
Unity, Trust & Collaboration
- Give thanks where churches are working together in genuine unity.
- Pray for healing where there has been division, mistrust, or isolation.
- Ask that leaders would grow in humility, love, and a shared vision for the wider Church.
Leadership Development & the Next Generation
- Pray for the raising up of new leaders—pastors, evangelists, and lay leaders.
- Ask God to strengthen and sustain those currently in leadership, especially where there is fatigue or pressure.
- Pray for younger Christians, that they would be discipled well and step into leadership with faith and courage.
